For sometime now I lived between back East and Dodge Deep in debt I would have bled gold from a demon’s vein When a sharp dressed man came up and said “I’ve got what you need I’ll pay your ticket if you join me on this here train” (was this my escape ?) Whoa..oh…and the train went rolling out Those on board looked lifeless yet alittle rough When I asked the man where were we going ? He said with a poker face “Son, this here train is headed straight for Devil’s Bluff” We sat right down he pulled out a deck of cards A crowd drew near, by the clock on the wall time had stopped With a hangman’s smile he shuffled, I smelled the stench of stale cigars When I cut the cards he laughed, the joker was on top Whoa…oh…the train kept rolling fast “Just let me know Son when you’ve had enough I’ve seen your kind before, I know you’re on the lam(b) But we’ll settle it up when we get to Devil’s Bluff He dealt the cards, we picked them up, we arranged our hands The crowd leaned forward elbowing so they could see With a blank look in his eyes he got a smirk on his mouth I could tell by the moans that the cards were marked and stacked against me Whoa…oh…the train kept rolling fast(er) The man held three sixes and an ace up in his cuff Not your winning hand at home but we’re on this train Its good enough to win at Devil’s Bluff The conductor strolled in the car and he said “we’re getting near” The man looked at me and said “Son, whatcha gonna do ? You didn’t think you could really escape your wagered soul Its time to pay the devil his dues” Whoa…oh…the train kept rolling faster I saw a cliff approaching, the payoff was soon enough May as well be hanging from a noose swinging from a gallow Sign said you’re about to enter Devil’s Bluff I looked out the window, fold my hand and say a prayer As we passed through a crossing I smiled I knew I could leave The crowd reeled back the man hissed and started to sneer He knew he was done when I pulled a King from my sleeve Whoa…oh…the train came to a crashing halt I climbed right off despite the sharp dressed man’s guff I headed to the east to turn myself in The train disappeared so did Devil’s Bluff… Whoa..oh…mmmmm…whoa..oh…mmmmm
