about

So a guy challenged me with a scenario...how little Christians do OUTSIDE of their church circles. I mean, personal ministry...not group ministry...not "sanctioned" under church ministry banner...BUT...gulp...an individual who takes it upon themselves to actually DO something because Jesus would do it...right then...in the moment...no approval or pressure, no committee formed, no phone call to the pastor just the Holy Spirit nudging you to do it. The guy set me up saying a guy is broken down and you're in a hurry to get someplace...or you see a homeless guy while you're indulging in something extra. It was a comfort zone question. Admit it...we are more likely to and comfortable with sipping a coffee with Christian friends than getting our hands dirty assisting the hellbound without a pittance of applause from the flock. (intended "ouch"). Okay I had fun with it....

lyrics

Angel’s Underwear

I pulled into my church
A guy with a flat tire’s next to me
He said his name was Angel
Covered in grease and hunched on his knees

I had to laugh in silence
Him squatting like a plumber
What a mess of a guy
That really is a bummer

I knew he needed something
But I ran out of words to say
I didn’t want to get too dirty
glanced back and walked away

I think I’m seeing - seeing Angel’s underwear
Made me wanna tell him something like life’s not fair
So I’m seeing – seeing Angel’s underwear
But crackin’ a joke just seems like I really don’t care

So I kinda gotta wonder…whats going on side my heart
staring out of the window as the worship starts
So in the middle of the message I get up from my comfy chair
I go out to my car and I realize that no ones there

Last week I was sititng
At a Starbuck’s near where I live
There I see that guy again
With a sign for me to give

Next to him is a box
I’m guessing with all his earthly goods
I’m thinking times got harder
By the grace I knock on wood

In the box I see some stuff
Off a life thank God that I don’t know
Broken trinkets scraps of food
And on the pavement are some tattered clothes

I think I’m seeing - seeing Angel’s underwear
Made me wanna tell him something like life’s not fair
So I’m seeing – seeing Angel’s underwear
But crackin’ a joke just seems like I really don’t care

So I kinda gotta wonder…whats going on side my heart
Looking out of the window I’ve got to do my part
So in the middle of my coffee I get up from my comfy chair
I go out to the sidewalk and realize that no ones there

Maybe we’re seeing…we’re seeing angels unaware
Should make you wanna show them that we really do care
So if you’re seeing – you’re seeing angels unaware
Step out of your comfort zone we’ve gotta meet them there
